CBTC’s goal is to provide North Carolina actors an opportunity to gain experience and resume while working within their state while providing premier theatre for local audiences. The cast of Smokey Joe’s Café will knock your bobby socks off with AEA actors from New York onstage with college students from such schools as University of NC School of the Arts, American Musical and Dramatic Academy in NY, Western Carolina University, Appalachian State University, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Lenoir-Rhyne University and NC A&T State University.
This high energy show features the songs of Lieber and Stoller who wrote many of the songs most beloved from this era. This Tony nominated show includes all your favorites including “Jail House Rock”, “Stand By Me”, “Love Potion #9”, “Poison Ivy”, “On Broadway”, and “Hound Dog”. The result was the birth of a summer professional theatre season that will present two opportunities for the 2015 season. The area’s first fully professional production was a labor of love driven by multiple forces including CVCC, The Arts Council, The Hickory Museum of Art, New York’s Actor’s Equity Association, students from four NC colleges, creative artists from five states, a plethora of local businesses and a myriad of volunteer hands. In 2014, CBTC kicked off a summer of professional theatre with Grease.
